Do Potatoes Contain Gluten?

For example, potatoes in a restaurant can be boiled in water that has previously boiled something with gluten like pasta. This would cause cross-contamination and be enough to trigger a reaction in someone with celiac disease. The same goes for pots, pans, knives, and various cooking surfaces that can cause cross-contamination. If any surface or utensil used to cook comes into contact with gluten, it should be washed thoroughly with warm soapy water or cleaned in the dishwasher. Porous surfaces like a cutting board or knife can trap gluten in cracks and cause cross-contamination and make the potatoes no longer gluten-free.
